Coffee Insights on the Dynamics in the Workplace

Dr. Allana and Jerry Coffee kicked off the workshop stating there is nothing new under the sun and most of what they would be presenting had probably been heard by the attendees before.  And yet, within 10 minutes of them sharing how humans can often process information differently under silent stress, I was weaving together examples from my life and drawing new conclusions about my relationships with my clients, my colleagues and even my husband.  To be fair, I had already heard them speak in 2021 and I knew there was something about their presentation style that worked for me.  I remember leaving the last event relaxed and reenergized.  And in the 2021 workplace, that didn’t happen often for me.

In Wednesday’s meeting, they covered mental health in the workplace; modern burnout and stress; and the effect of leadership styles on employee retention and productivity.  They also shared some ideas about how to mitigate these issues.  In their work with teams, they shared a 1-minute process they use to identify the leadership styles of every manager in the room and suggestions for adding diversity in those styles to address more employees’ needs.

The charts on how humans process information normally vs. under stress, were the points that game me the most introspection.   However, some of the most valuable content came with Q&A at the end of the session when attendees asked for specific information on pressing concerns.  Valuable insights were shared on family owned business succession planning, and another on how subject matter experts can threaten leadership and how leaders can easily turn that threat into positive affirmation.

If you missed this event, and you get another chance to learn from this dynamic team, don’t hesitate.  This program was another example of how Hawaii has great talent here at home.   This time in Ewa Beach.
